Short answer

B&M Canada Appliances provides washer repair throughout Orléans (Orleans), in east Ottawa, for front-loaders and top-loaders that won’t start, stop mid-cycle, won’t drain or spin, leak, bang or smell. We work on most major brands, in English or French. Orléans is within 30 km of downtown Ottawa, so no travel charge applies. Visits can be the same day when the schedule allows; the repair is always quoted in writing before any work.

01What is it doing?

Common washer problems

Each guide explains what the symptom usually points to and what is safe to check yourself. Ready to book? Pick the symptom and it is filled in for you.

02East-end service

Washing machine repair for Orléans households

In a busy east-end family home, a dead washer turns into a mountain of laundry within days. We have repaired washers in Ottawa’s east end since 1995, from the high-efficiency front-loaders in newer Avalon and Cardinal Creek builds to the older top-load machines still working in Convent Glen and Orléans Village.

Orléans has a large francophone community, and our service is bilingual: you can book and hear the diagnosis in French or English.

03Won’t start

When an Orléans washer won’t start or stops mid-cycle

A washer that does nothing, or quits halfway, has a short list of likely causes. A few are worth checking yourself first:

  • Make sure the plug is in and the breaker or outlet hasn’t tripped.
  • Look for a control-lock or child-lock symbol on the display; most models unlock by holding one button for a few seconds (see your manual).
  • Check that a delay-start time isn’t set.
  • Close the door or lid firmly; the cycle won’t begin until the lock confirms.

If none of that helps, the fault is usually a door lock or lid switch that never confirms, a water-level pressure sensor that misreads, a control board, or a motor that overheated and tripped its thermal protection partway through the cycle. The technician tests each in turn instead of swapping parts. Our washer won’t start guide explains them in more detail.

04Leaks and odour

Tracing leaks and musty smells

Water on the floor usually comes from a worn front-load door gasket, a cracked fill hose, a loose pump connection or a detergent drawer that overflows with too many suds. Where it pools is rarely where it starts, so the technician runs the washer and watches for the source rather than guessing.

A sour smell or a film on clean clothes is a front-loader problem first. Water left in the folds of the door gasket and in the detergent drawer lets mould and detergent residue build up. The technician cleans or replaces the gasket, clears the pump filter and drain path, and makes sure the drum empties and spins out properly. See washer leaking water for more on leaks.

05Drain and spin

Water left in the drum, banging on spin

A drum that stays full points to a clogged drain pump or filter, which catches coins and lint, a broken drive belt, or a failed lid switch or door lock that stops the drain-and-spin step. Banging, or a machine that walks across the floor on spin, comes from worn drum bearings, tired shock absorbers or a broken suspension rod. A high-efficiency washer that suddenly turns violent on spin needs attention before the drum damages itself.

06The visit

Booking an Orléans washer repair

You can request a visit online whenever it suits you, or call. We call or text to confirm a time window of about three hours, and only then is the request an appointment. Share the washer’s make and model; it helps the technician bring the right parts.

The technician works through the drain pump, belt, gasket, bearings, door or lid lock and control board, explains what failed and gives you a written quote. Go ahead, and the $89 + tax residential diagnostic is applied to the repair. A written diagnostic report follows, and repairs carry a 3-month warranty on parts and labour. Overnight visits, from 9 PM to 7 AM, add a $100 flat after-hours fee.

Questions, answered

Something else? Call and ask.

613-301-0016
Will I pay a travel fee in Orléans?

No. Orléans lies within 30 km of downtown Ottawa, in our core area, so the only service-call cost is the $89 + tax residential diagnostic, credited to the repair if you go ahead.

Can a technician come today?

Sometimes. Same-day visits depend on the day’s schedule; we confirm the earliest window by call or text after you send a request.

Can I be served in French?

Oui. Our service is bilingual, so you can book and talk the repair through with the technician in French. If you would like the written quote in French, mention it when you book.

Why does my front-loader smell and leave clothes damp?

Usually a worn or mouldy door gasket, a pump filter clogged with lint, or a drain fault that cuts the spin short. We clean or replace the part at fault and check that the washer drains and spins fully.

Is it worth repairing my washer?

Usually, when the washer is less than about 8 to 10 years old and the problem is a pump, belt, gasket or switch. You get the price before any work, and a plain recommendation if replacing would make more sense; our repair or replace guide explains the trade-off.

Do you warranty washer repairs?

Yes, for 3 months on parts and labour; ask for the written terms. The same terms apply as across the rest of our Ottawa washer service.
