02Common problems

Viking range, oven and appliance problems

  • Viking range igniter not sparking: a failed igniter or spark module. Burners that click non-stop usually have moisture or a spill on a burner switch; see gas stove igniter clicking.
  • Viking oven not heating: on gas ovens, a weak igniter or a faulty gas valve, often with a long delay before the burner lights; on dual-fuel and electric ovens, the bake element. Our oven not heating guide covers the symptoms.
  • Viking refrigerator not cooling: the condenser fan, the defrost system or, less often, the compressor. Compressor or refrigerant faults use the $159 + tax sealed-system diagnostic, and that labour is quoted by phone.
  • Viking dishwasher not draining: the drain pump or the control board.
  • Viking range control valve issues: a burner knob that is stiff or won’t hold a low flame; the valve is replaced. Any smell of gas comes first: see the safety note below.

03Gas safety

If you smell gas at your Viking range

Leave the home right away, don’t operate switches, and call Enbridge Gas’s emergency line (Gazifère in Gatineau) or 911 from outside. Book the repair once the gas utility has made the area safe.

Never tighten gas fittings, remove burner valves or open the control panel yourself; gas parts and the wiring behind them are left to the technician.

Why does my Viking oven take so long to light?

Many Viking gas ovens use a glow-bar igniter, which must draw enough current before the gas valve opens. As the igniter weakens, the delay grows until the oven stops lighting, so the igniter is replaced.

Do you repair Viking dual-fuel ranges?

Yes. The gas burners and the electric oven are diagnosed separately: igniters, valves and spark modules on top, elements, sensors and controls below.

How much does a Viking service call cost?

Gas ranges, rangetops and gas ovens have a $129 + tax diagnostic. Viking refrigerators, dishwashers and electric wall ovens have the $89 + tax residential diagnostic, which is applied toward the repair if you go ahead.
