The 5 things to check before you call us (5-minute checklist)
- Drain hose kink. Pull the washer 6" from the wall. If the hose is bent sharply, straighten it. About 1 in 12 calls is a kinked hose.
- Drain hose height. The hose should loop up to at least 30" off the floor before going down to the standpipe. Too low and water siphons back; too high and it can’t drain.
- Filter blockage (front-load only). Most front-loaders have a small drain filter behind a panel at the front-bottom. Place a towel, open it, drain the water, and check for coins, lint, hair clips. Clean and re-seat. This fixes about 1 in 5 calls before we even arrive.
- Lid switch (top-load) test. Close the lid firmly. If it doesn’t click, your drain pump can’t engage. A floppy lid switch is a $90–$140 fix from us.
- Cycle reset. Unplug for 60 seconds, plug back in, run a Drain or Spin-only cycle. About 1 in 8 calls is just a stuck control board that resets cleanly.

Brand-specific error codes
LG washer (OE / IE / FE)
OE = drain error (pump or hose). IE = inlet (water-supply) error. FE = overflow. For OE, run a Tub-Clean cycle with the filter cleaned first; if OE returns, it’s the drain pump. Our LG specialist page covers the diagnostic-mode reset for stuck OE codes.
Samsung washer (5C / SC / 5E / nd)
All four codes are drain-system errors. Samsung’s diagnostic mode (hold “Spin” + “Soak” 3 seconds with door closed and unit in standby) shows the actual fault: pump impeller, hose, or pressure sensor. More on Samsung washer service in Ottawa.
Whirlpool / Maytag / KitchenAid (F9 E1 / F2 / F8)

Bosch (E18 / E23)
Both are drain errors. Bosch front-load washers store more debris in the filter sump than other brands — clean the filter first; replace the pump if the code persists.
