Local appliance repair in Blackburn Hamlet

Blackburn Hamlet is a self-contained east-end community surrounded by the Greenbelt, with the Gloucester neighbourhoods to the west and Orléans to the east. It is a residential area of family homes with busy kitchens and laundry rooms.

B&M Canada Appliances is based in Ottawa and has repaired appliances in the city since 1995. A technician comes to your home, diagnoses the problem and gives you a written quote before starting any work, with no hidden fees and no surprises. We work in English and French.

03What we repair

Fridges, laundry, cooking appliances and dishwashers

  • Fridge repair: warm compartments, frost on the back panel, water under the drawers, ice makers that quit.
  • Washer repair: water left in the drum, no spin, leaks and error codes.
  • Dryer repair: no heat, long drying times, noise, and gas dryers that won’t ignite.
  • Stove and oven repair: elements, burners, temperature problems and controls.
  • Dishwasher repair: poor cleaning, draining faults, leaks and doors that won’t latch.
  • Microwave repair: built-in and over-the-range units that won’t heat or start.
  • Range hood repair: fans, lights and switches.

We repair most major brands, including Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, GE and GE Café, Frigidaire, Electrolux, Bosch, Miele, Kenmore and Amana.

04Common causes

What usually goes wrong, and what we check

Fridge warm, freezer fine

This pattern usually means cold air isn’t reaching the fresh-food side: frost has blocked the evaporator because a defrost part failed, or the evaporator fan has stopped. We test the defrost heater, thermostat or sensor and the fan before replacing anything. If both sections are warm, the condenser fan, start relay, control board or the sealed system come next; sealed-system work carries a $159 + tax diagnostic and is quoted by phone.

Washer stops with water in the drum

Check that the drain hose isn’t kinked, then leave the rest to us: the pump filter, the pump itself or, on top-loaders, the lid switch or motor coupler are the usual culprits. Leaks mostly come from fill hoses, the door boot or a pump seal.

Dryer runs but doesn’t dry

Clean the lint screen and check that the outside vent flap opens while the dryer runs. If it does, the problem is usually a thermal fuse, heating element or thermostat on electric models, or an igniter or gas valve coil on gas models, which our TSSA-certified technicians handle.

Dishwasher leaves water or grit

Pull and rinse the filter first. If water still stands, the drain pump, drain hose or air gap is likely blocked or has failed; grit and film point to clogged spray arms or a weak wash pump.

Oven won’t reach temperature

A bake element that no longer glows, a temperature sensor out of calibration or a failed relay on the control board are the common finds, and gas ovens that won’t light usually need an igniter. Please don’t open a range’s rear panel yourself: it runs on 240 volts.

Microwave or hood quits

An over-the-range microwave that lights up but won’t heat usually has a failed door switch, high-voltage diode or magnetron; a hood fan that hums without turning has a seized motor or a bad capacitor. Countertop microwaves are rarely worth repairing, and we will tell you so.

Gas smell near the stove or dryer: leave the home first, then call Enbridge Gas from outside.

05Your visit

Three steps to a fixed appliance in Blackburn Hamlet

  1. Book your appointment. Book online any time or call, and tell us the appliance and the problem. We call or text to confirm a time window of about three hours; we can often come the same day when the schedule allows.
  2. Diagnosis and upfront quote. The technician diagnoses the problem in your home and gives you a written quote before starting. The diagnostic is $89 + tax ($129 + tax for gas appliances) and is applied toward the repair.
  3. Repair and warranty. The repair is completed, often on the first visit, and backed by a 3-month warranty on parts and labour. You also receive a written diagnostic report.

How to describe the problem

A good description helps the technician bring the right part the first time. Tell us the brand and model number (on a label inside the door, under the lid or on the back), what the appliance is doing or not doing, when it started, and any error code, blinking light or unusual noise. For a gas appliance, mention that it is gas so we book the right technician.

Visits run from 7 AM to 9 PM. For a breakdown that can’t wait until morning, a visit between 9 PM and 7 AM carries a $100 flat after-hours fee; our emergency appliance repair page explains how it works.

Do you charge a travel fee to Blackburn Hamlet?

No. Blackburn Hamlet lies well within our standard Ottawa area, so you pay only the diagnostic, which is applied toward the repair if you proceed.

How soon can a technician come?

A same-day visit can often be arranged when the schedule allows. An online request is not an appointment yet: we call or text to confirm a window of about three hours.

Do you repair gas stoves and dryers?

Yes. Gas appliances are repaired by our TSSA-certified technicians, with a $129 + tax diagnostic.

Is my older appliance worth repairing?

Often, yes: many failures come down to a single part. After the diagnostic we tell you what the repair costs and how much life the appliance likely has left, so you can decide; when replacement makes more sense, we say so.

Is the repair covered by a warranty?

Yes, a 3-month warranty on parts and labour covers the repair we complete; ask for a copy of the written terms.
