LG direct-drive machines show UE, LE and OE more than most, and the fix differs sharply by code. The technician confirms the code with tests before quoting, so an OE drain fault is never treated as a motor problem.

• OE on a front-loader: clean the pump filter behind the small access door at the bottom front. Put towels down and drain the water through the small hose first.
• IE: make sure both taps behind the machine are fully open and the inlet hoses aren’t kinked.
• UE on every load: check that the washer sits level and doesn’t rock on its feet.
• Musty smell: run the Tub Clean cycle with the drum empty.

On an LG direct-drive washer the rotor bolts straight onto the drum shaft and the stator sits behind it, with no belt or transmission. The design is reliable, but it needs LG-specific diagnosis. We test the Hall-effect rotor sensor first, because most LE codes turn out to be the sensor or its wiring rather than the motor itself. A loose rotor bolt or a damaged stator causes banging and shuddering on spin; worn drum bearings cause a steady roar.

Many LG washers carry a long manufacturer warranty on the direct-drive motor, up to 10 years on some models (usually parts only). Check your paperwork before paying for a motor; we’ll flag it before quoting a motor replacement.
