Stove and range repair in Gatineau

Electric ranges are the norm in Quebec kitchens, with coil elements or a smooth glass top, and induction is increasingly common in renovations. Gas ranges, on natural gas or propane, are less frequent. Each type fails differently:

• Electric coil: burnt-out elements, loose or scorched receptacles, infinite switches and wiring.

Burner or element won’t heat

On electric: a coil burnt out, a faulty switch or an open break in the wiring. On gas: a failed igniter, a blocked orifice or a faulty igniter switch. We test continuity and replace only the component that failed. En français : élément de cuisinière qui ne chauffe pas.

Gas burner clicks but won’t light

A worn igniter, blocked burner ports, a dirty electrode or a failed valve. If the burner got wet in a boil-over, let it dry completely and reseat the cap before booking.

Induction cooktop won’t recognize the pan

A failed coil, a sensor fault on the control board, or cookware that isn’t magnetic. We test with a known induction-compatible pan first to rule out the cookware.

Error code on the control panel

F1, F2, E0, E1 and brand-specific codes on Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, Bosch and Frigidaire ranges each point toward a part, which we confirm with a meter before replacing it.

Knobs or touch panel unresponsive

A failed mechanical switch, or the control board on electronic models. We test the wiring harness before condemning the board.

Cracked ceramic top

The glass is replaced as a part when one is available. We check availability and price first and tell you honestly when a new range makes more sense.

Burners fine, oven cold

Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, GE and GE Profile, Frigidaire, Maytag, Bosch, Electrolux, Kenmore, Miele, Wolf, Thermador, Jenn-Air, Viking, Inglis and Amana. The diagnostic is $89 + tax for electric and induction stoves, applied toward the repair you approve; gas stoves and commercial equipment are $129 + tax. Elements, switches, sensors and igniters typically land between $150 and $350 for parts and labour; a control board runs higher. Book online whenever it suits you, or phone. We then call or text to agree an arrival window of about three hours, and only then is the visit booked; same-day is possible on lighter days. Night visits (9 PM to 7 AM) add a flat $100 (see emergency appliance repair), and cancelling or moving the appointment with under 48 hours’ notice may cost $85.

The technician quotes in writing on site before starting, leaves a written diagnostic report, and the repair carries a three-month parts-and-labour warranty (written terms on request).

Most stove faults are single, modest parts: an element, a switch, an igniter, a sensor. On a range under about twelve years old those are clear repairs. The harder calls are a control board on a discontinued model, a cracked glass top on an older budget range, or several faults arriving at once.
