Whirlpool dryer repair in Ottawa

Whirlpool is one of the most common dryer brands in Canadian laundry rooms, and B&M Canada Appliances repairs them on both sides of the Ottawa River. The Whirlpool chassis is shared with Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana and many Kenmore dryers.

That matters for repairs. The same diagnosis applies across the whole family and many parts cross-fit between brands, so a technician who knows the Whirlpool platform can fix all of them, often with parts that are easy to source. • Front-load dryers: WED and WGD models and the older Duet series, electric and gas.

• Traditional dryers: WED4 and WGD4 models, common as budget-line and rental units.

This is almost always airflow or sensing, not a failed heater. Many Whirlpool dryers, Cabrio models especially, end the cycle based on two metal moisture-sensor bars inside the drum, near the lint filter. Dryer sheets leave a film on those bars, so the dryer decides the load is dry and stops early. Wiping the bars with rubbing alcohol often fixes it.

If it doesn’t, look at the vent. A crushed foil duct behind the dryer, a long run with several elbows or a lint-packed exterior hood all cut airflow and stretch drying times, and the AF code on many models is the dryer reporting exactly that. • PF: power failure during the cycle.
• AF: airflow restriction, usually the vent or lint filter.
• L2: low or no line voltage, often a supply or breaker problem rather than the dryer itself.
• E1 / E2: thermistor faults on some models.
• E3: user-interface fault on some models.
• F-series codes (F22, F70, F71 and others): sensor, control-board or communication faults between the console and the main control.

Meanings differ between model families, so the technician reads the stored fault history in service mode and tests the suspect part before replacing a board.

Gas models carry the $129 + tax gas-appliance diagnostic, and gas work in Ontario is done under our TSSA certification. If the igniter never glows, the igniter itself is the usual suspect. If it glows and goes out without lighting the burner, or the flame drops out partway through the cycle and won’t relight, the gas-valve solenoid coils are the more likely cause.

The diagnostic is $89 + tax for a home dryer and $129 + tax for gas and commercial units. Either fee buys the diagnosis and a fixed written price for the repair, and the $89 residential fee is deducted from the repair bill if you proceed.
