Dryer repair in Kanata

Where your dryer sits changes what tends to go wrong with it. In newer Kanata Lakes and Morgan’s Grant homes, laundry is often on the second floor or in a stacked laundry centre tucked into a closet, with the vent climbing through interior walls to the roof or a side wall. In Beaverbrook and Glen Cairn, more dryers sit in the basement, where the duct behind the machine is easily flattened when the dryer is pushed back against the wall.

Long runs with several elbows are the ones that trap lint. If an upstairs dryer takes noticeably longer than it used to, the vent is the first thing we look at, followed by the blower wheel and lint housing inside the cabinet.

• No heat. Electric dryers usually lose a heating element, thermal fuse or thermostat; gas dryers, an igniter or gas valve coil. Because a blocked vent can blow the thermal fuse, the technician tests the whole heat circuit and the airflow together. See dryer not heating.
• Damp clothes after a full cycle. Nearly always an airflow restriction: lint in the vent, a flattened flex hose or a worn blower wheel. Fixing it saves energy and lowers the fire risk.
• Drum won’t turn, or thumps and squeals. A worn belt, a seized idler pulley or flat-spotted drum rollers. Our guide to a dryer not spinning explains each part.
• Dead on start, or stops mid-cycle. A faulty door or start switch, a blown thermal fuse or a control-board fault. We test rather than guess, and quote in writing before any work.

Lint that gets past the screen settles in the vent, and in a long run it builds up fastest at each bend. As airflow drops, the dryer runs longer and hotter, the element and thermal fuse wear out early, and the lint itself becomes fuel sitting close to a heat source.

On a slow-drying or overheating dryer, the technician checks the lint housing, the blower wheel, the flex hose behind the machine and the flow at the outside cap, and confirms the dryer is exhausting properly. If the restriction is in a vent run inside your walls, we tell you so it can be cleaned.
