You can send B&M Canada Appliances a repair request online 24 hours a day, but a request is not yet an appointment: we confirm a time by call or text. Our technicians work regular service hours, 7 AM to 9 PM. When a breakdown truly can’t wait for morning, a visit between 9 PM and 7 AM can be booked when the schedule allows, and it adds a $100 flat after-hours fee to the regular diagnostic.

Five minutes that sometimes save a visit, and always make it faster. Skip anything you are not comfortable doing.
- Close the water supplyFor a leaking washer or dishwasher, turn off the supply valves behind the machine or under the sink (or the main shut-off in the basement), mop up standing water and don’t start another cycle.
- Keep the fridge shutStop opening the doors. If the fridge side has been warm for more than about four hours, move meat, seafood and dairy into a cooler with ice.
- Cut power to a runaway dryerIf a dryer won’t shut off or feels hot when it should be off, unplug it or switch off its breaker, and don’t restart it.
- Switch off a stuck burnerTurn the control to OFF. If an electric element stays on or keeps arcing, switch the range off at the breaker panel. A gas burner that won’t shut off is handled like a gas leak: leave and call the gas utility.
- Write down the detailsNote the brand, the model number from the label and any error code. It tells us whether the fault needs a visit tonight or can wait.
03What it means
What “24-hour appliance repair” actually means in Ottawa
Many appliance repair shops in the National Capital Region stop taking requests at the end of the business day. With B&M you can send a repair request online at any hour, overnight, on weekends and on holidays, so the problem is on record the moment it happens. A request is not an appointment until we call or text you to confirm a time window of about three hours.
Our technicians work regular service hours, 7 AM to 9 PM. For a genuine appliance emergency, such as water soaking the floor, a fridge full of food warming up, or a dryer that won’t shut off, a visit between 9 PM and 7 AM can be booked when the schedule allows. That after-hours visit adds a $100 flat fee on top of regular rates.
For problems that can wait, a 3 AM request won’t get a 3 AM visit. We book the first suitable daytime window instead, which costs you less and gives us time to plan the visit around the brand, model and symptom.

When to ask for an after-hours visit, and when to wait for morning
Worth an after-hours visit
- A washer or dishwasher that keeps leaking after you’ve closed the water valves
- A fridge or freezer that has gone warm with a full load of food inside
- A dryer that won’t shut off, or runs hot when it should be off
- A stove burner or element stuck on, or arcing: see stove burner stuck on
A smell of gas near a stove, oven or dryer is a safety call before it is a repair call. Turn the appliance off if you can do it safely, don’t touch light switches or flames, leave the home and call Enbridge Gas (Ontario) or Gazifère (Gatineau) from outside, or 911. Book the repair once the utility has made it safe.
Fine to book for the morning

How an after-hours visit works at B&M
- Send a request any time. Give the appliance, brand, model, the symptom and your address. The more detail, the better we can judge the urgency.
- We confirm by call or text. We tell you whether an after-hours visit is possible or offer the first daytime window, and confirm the time and the cost before anyone sets out.
- Diagnosis on site. The technician finds the fault. The diagnostic is $89 + tax for residential appliances and $129 + tax for gas appliances and commercial equipment, plus the $100 flat fee when the visit falls between 9 PM and 7 AM.
- Written quote before work. You approve the repair price before anything is replaced, and the diagnostic is applied toward the repair you approve.
- Report and warranty. You receive a written diagnostic report, and the repair carries a 3-month warranty on parts and labour.

The diagnostic itself doesn’t change with the clock. What changes is the after-hours fee:
- 7 AM to 9 PM: regular rates, $89 + tax residential diagnostic, $129 + tax for gas appliances and commercial equipment.
- 9 PM to 7 AM: the same diagnostic plus a $100 flat after-hours fee.
Fridge and freezer faults in the sealed system (compressor or refrigerant) have their own $159 + tax diagnostic, and that repair is quoted by phone. Addresses more than 30 km from downtown Ottawa may carry a travel charge, which we confirm when we book. After-hours visits cover the same area as our daytime service: the Ottawa core, Kanata, Barrhaven, Orléans, Nepean (including Bells Corners and Centrepointe), Gloucester (Beacon Hill, Blackburn Hamlet, Convent Glen), Stittsville, South Keys and Manotick, plus Gatineau, Hull and Aylmer on the Quebec side.
Gatineau, Hull and Aylmer are within 30 km of downtown Ottawa, so there is no travel charge to cross the river. Outer communities such as Carp, Greely and Kemptville are covered too; addresses more than 30 km from downtown, Kemptville for one, may carry a travel charge, which we confirm when we call or text to set the time.

Do you charge an emergency surcharge?
Only for visits between 9 PM and 7 AM, which add a $100 flat fee to the regular diagnostic ($89 + tax residential, $129 + tax for gas appliances). We confirm the cost when we call or text to set the time.
My fridge died at 11 PM. Should I send a request now or wait?
Send it now and tell us what is inside. Keep the doors closed, and move meat, seafood and dairy to a cooler if the fridge has been warm for a few hours; a full freezer kept shut usually stays frozen for a day or more. We then agree whether an after-hours visit or the first morning window makes sense.
Do you handle gas appliance problems overnight?
Gas stoves, ovens and dryers in Ontario are repaired by our TSSA-certified technicians. If you smell gas, leave the home and call Enbridge Gas (Gazifère in Gatineau) from outside first; the repair comes once the utility has made it safe.
Do you cover Gatineau and Hull at night?
Yes, when the schedule allows. The after-hours area matches the daytime one, and there is no travel charge for Gatineau, Hull or Aylmer. On the Quebec side, gas appliance service is confirmed when you book.
Is the warranty different for after-hours repairs?
No. Every repair carries the same 3-month warranty on parts and labour, whatever time the visit happens; ask for the written terms.
