Short answer

We repair Samsung washing machines across Ottawa and Gatineau: front-load (WF), top-load (WA), FlexWash (WV), AddWash and Bespoke models. Most Samsung washer repairs are drain pump failures (5E or nD), water-inlet faults (4E), unbalanced-load shutdowns (UE), door-lock faults (dE) and worn shock absorbers or bearings. The technician tests the machine on site, and you get a written quote before any repair begins.

01What is it doing?

Common Samsung washer problems

Each guide explains what the symptom usually points to and what is safe to check yourself. Ready to book? Pick the symptom and it is filled in for you.

02Common problems

Common Samsung washing machine problems we fix

Samsung washers, from front-load (WF series), top-load (WA series), FlexWash dual-drum (WV series) and AddWash (with the small door pocket) to the newer Bespoke models, share a Samsung service platform with a diagnostic mode, display fault codes and a well-known set of failures. The big ones we see in Ottawa and Gatineau are:

  • Drain pump failures (5E or nD codes)
  • Fill and water-inlet faults (4E)
  • Unbalanced-load shutdowns (UE)
  • Door-lock and door-switch failures (dE, or dC on newer models)
  • Main control board faults (bE and related codes)
  • Bearing and seal failures on out-of-warranty machines

Give us the model number and the code when you book; it helps the technician prepare, and many common repairs are finished on the first visit. For symptom-by-symptom guidance, see our washer not spinning Ottawa and washer leaking Ottawa guides.

03Error codes

Samsung washer error codes: 4E, 5E, nD, UE, LE, dE, bE, SE

Samsung washers show fault codes on the display that point toward the failed component. Older models use an E suffix and newer ones a C (4E becomes 4C, for example). The common ones:

  • 4E / 4C: water inlet (failed valve or blocked screen)
  • 5E / 5C / nD: drain (pump or hose clog)
  • UE / Ub: unbalanced load, sometimes a shock-absorber failure
  • LE / LC: leak detected (drum seal or water hose)
  • dE / dC: door switch or lock motor
  • OE / OF: overfill
  • bE / bE2 / bC2: stuck button or control board fault
  • SE: sensor fault on some models
  • HE / HC: heater, on models with onboard heating
  • Sud: excess suds

Resetting and hoping usually brings the same code back. Tell us the code when you book so the technician can plan for the likely pump, valve, switch or board.

04Before you book

What to check before you call

  • 5E or nD on a front-loader: open the small access door at the bottom front, let the water out through the emergency drain tube into a shallow pan, then unscrew and clean the debris filter.
  • 4E: confirm both taps are fully open and the inlet hoses aren’t kinked behind the machine.
  • UE on a newly installed or moved washer: make sure the transit bolts were removed from the back of a front-loader and the feet are level; many Samsung top-loaders also have a calibration routine described in the owner’s manual.
  • Musty smell: run Self Clean with the drum empty and leave the door ajar between loads.
  • Smart models: Smart Check in the SmartThings app can read the code if the display is hard to interpret.

If a code returns after these checks, the part needs testing, not another reset.

05Drain and spin

Samsung washer not draining or not spinning

Not draining: pump and coin trap

A Samsung washer that ends the cycle with water still in the drum is almost always one of three things: a clogged coin trap or debris filter (on front-loaders, behind the access door at the bottom front, and an easy clean you can do yourself), a failed drain pump (common after 5–7 years), or a kinked or blocked drain hose. The 5E and nD codes both point here. We fit the matching DC31 or DC97 pump assembly for the model; see also washer not draining.

Not spinning: Hall sensor, belt and control board

If the drum fills and drains but won’t spin, or only spins at the lowest speed, the usual suspects are the Hall sensor (DC93 or DC31 parts, which measure drum speed for the inverter motor), the drive belt on belt-driven models, a door lock that won’t confirm and so blocks high spin, or the main control board. Testing the Hall sensor output and the door-switch continuity shows which one has failed before we quote.

06Leaks, no-start, noise

Samsung washer leaking, not starting or noisy

Leaking: door boot, hoses and detergent drawer

Front-load Samsung leaks usually come from one of four places: the door boot gasket (cracked or torn, visible on inspection), the detergent drawer (a clogged siphon or worn seal), the drum-to-pump hose, or the rear shaft seal, which is bearing-related and more involved. Top-load leaks are usually the water inlet valve, the tub-to-pump hose or the dispenser housing. The technician traces the source and quotes the repair before any parts are replaced.

Won’t start: door lock, mains filter and control board

“Push the button, nothing happens” usually comes down to the door-lock assembly (the safety circuit won’t start a cycle until the door is confirmed closed), the mains filter that suppresses electrical noise on the power supply, or the main control board. Checking door-lock continuity and the board’s low-voltage supply narrows it down; see washer won’t start.

Noisy or vibrating: bearings, shock absorbers and spider

A Samsung washer that grinds during spin has usually worn out its drum bearings, or the spider (the cast-aluminum cross that holds the inner drum) has started to crack. Both are serious jobs, and on an out-of-warranty machine we give you an honest economic recommendation: sometimes it is a repair in the $560–$850 range, sometimes a new washer is the right call. Shock-absorber failures, the classic “UE every cycle even on small loads”, are a $230–$350 repair and worth doing on any machine under eight years old. See washer making noise and washer shaking.

How much does Samsung washer repair cost in Ottawa?

The diagnostic is $89 + tax residential ($129 + tax commercial) and is applied toward the repair. Typical Samsung washer repairs range from about $130 (coin-trap service) to $540 (main PCB); drum bearing jobs run $560–$850, and we’ll tell you honestly when replacement is the better call.

My Samsung washer is showing 5E or nD. What does it mean?

Both indicate a drain fault. The most common cause is a clogged coin trap or debris filter (easy to clean), then a failed drain pump, and lastly a kinked or blocked drain hose. We diagnose the actual cause and quote before swapping any parts.

My Samsung washer keeps throwing UE on every load. Is the drum unbalanced?

Not always. Persistent UE codes on small or medium loads usually mean worn shock absorbers: the drum is no longer damped on spin, so the washer reads the wobble as an unbalanced load and stops. A set of shock absorbers is a $230–$350 repair, worth doing on a machine under eight years old.

Do you service Samsung FlexWash dual-drum and Bespoke AI Laundry units?

Yes. FlexWash (WV series, dual-drum) and Bespoke washers, including the newer Bespoke AI models, are serviced like the rest of the Samsung line, including control boards, secondary-drum pumps and door-lock assemblies.

How soon can a technician arrive for a Samsung washer that won’t drain?

Often the same day, if the schedule has room. Requests are confirmed by call or text with a time window of about three hours, and visits between 9 PM and 7 AM add a $100 flat after-hours fee.

Do you warranty your Samsung washer repair work?

Yes. Every repair includes a 3-month warranty on parts and labour; ask for the written terms. Any Samsung manufacturer warranty on parts is separate.
