Fridge and refrigerator repair in Perth

Food in a warm fridge has hours, not days. Perth pairs a stone-heritage downtown with active retirement living and lake-country properties, and the refrigerators we are asked to fix reflect all three: French-door and counter-depth models in renovated kitchens, long-serving top-mounts, beer fridges in the garage and chest freezers stocked for the season.

Older homes add one problem of their own. A fridge squeezed into a narrow alcove or boxed in by cabinetry cannot get rid of the heat from its condenser, so it runs non-stop and still drifts warm. The clearance and airflow the maker calls for are worth checking first: in a tight heritage kitchen, keeping the existing fridge working often beats hunting for one that fits.

Cooling problems

A fridge with its light on but no cold air has usually lost its evaporator fan, has a start relay that can no longer get the compressor going, or has an evaporator coil completely encased in ice. Our fridge not cooling guide covers each cause.

When the freezer stays cold but the fresh-food side warms up, look first at the defrost system. If the defrost heater, its thermostat or the control board stops working, ice builds up on the coil until air can no longer pass through it to the fresh-food compartment. A damper jammed shut between the two sections produces the same result.

Noise is often the early warning. Clicking every few minutes points to the start relay; growling from the bottom of the fridge points to the condenser fan; a compressor that never pauses suggests an airflow or sealing fault. Water and ice problems

Puddles on the floor generally trace to the defrost drain (blocked or frozen solid), a cracked fitting on the dispenser’s water line, or a worn gasket that lets damp air in to condense. See fridge leaking water.

On Samsung, LG and Whirlpool models with dispensers, ice-maker trouble usually comes down to a fill tube that has frozen, an inlet valve that has failed, or an ice-maker module at the end of its life, and none of these normally means taking the fridge out of your kitchen. A spare fridge in an unheated Perth garage often acts up from late fall to spring. Many fridges with a single thermostat in the fresh-food section only run when that side warms; in a cold garage it seldom does, so the compressor barely runs and the freezer slowly thaws. That can be a placement or garage-kit question rather than a broken part, and the technician will say so before any part is ordered.

Upright and chest freezers full of meat, fish or a garden harvest deserve the same urgency as the kitchen fridge. If one stops freezing, keep the lid closed and book a visit; a full chest freezer left shut holds its cold far longer than one opened to check.

Tay Valley and the lake roads draw their water from private wells. Hardness and fine sediment work slowly on a refrigerator: the screen inside the water-inlet valve clogs, the fill tube scales up, and ice production fades over months instead of stopping overnight. On a well, changing the fridge’s water filter sooner than the manual’s interval usually pays off, and a sediment filter or softener on the house supply helps too.
