Water left in a washer, dishwasher or fridge water line in an unheated building can freeze and crack valves and hoses over the winter, and appliances that sat idle for months may need attention at opening time. Once a refrigerator stops cooling, the clock starts on everything inside it, so it is the most urgent call we get. Most often, the evaporator coil has frosted over because the defrost heater, thermostat or sensor failed. Other likely causes: an evaporator or condenser fan that has quit, dust packed onto the condenser coil, or a failing control board or start relay. Our technician measures temperatures and airflow and tests each component instead of guessing, so you pay only for the part that actually failed.

Leaks get the same treatment; most trace back to a defrost drain that has frozen or clogged, a split water line or an inlet valve that weeps. Washing machines

Dryers

No heat, no start, no tumble, early shut-off and slow drying are all routine dryer repairs, on gas and electric models. No heat usually comes from a failed heating element, thermal fuse, cycling thermostat or high-limit thermostat, or on gas dryers, an igniter, flame sensor or gas valve coil. When the motor runs but the drum sits still, the belt has usually snapped or the idler pulley or drum rollers have worn out, and the same worn parts, or the drum glides, cause most squealing and thumping. Long drying times are very often caused by the vent rather than the dryer. Lint in the duct cuts airflow and makes the dryer run hot, a fire-safety concern, so the technician checks airflow as part of the diagnosis and tells you if the vent is the real problem.

Dishwashers

Built-in, panel-ready and compact dishwashers come to us with the same handful of complaints: water left in the tub, dishes still dirty, a leak, no fill, no start or wet dishes at the end. Water in the tub tends to be a plugged filter, a drain hose or air gap that is blocked, or a drain pump that has failed. Dirty dishes usually mean spray arms clogged with scale or food, a weak wash pump, an inlet valve that isn’t letting enough water in, or water that arrives too cool. Leaks usually start at the door gasket, the sump or a hose connection under the tub. Bosch machines often report the problem themselves: E15 flags water in the base, and E24 or E25 a drain fault; we fix what caused it, dry the base pan and reset the machine.

Range hoods and microwaves

A hood fan that has gone quiet or weak, a dead light or a control pad that ignores you are usually straightforward fixes. Over-the-range and built-in microwaves come to us for no heat, no start, sparking, and failed door switches, turntable motors or exhaust fans. For a countertop model, replacing it is usually the cheaper choice, and we will say so.
