Stove, range and oven repair in Kemptville

Kemptville is booming, and many of the new-build kitchens off the 416 are aging out of their builder and manufacturer warranties at the same time. On these ranges, the first parts to go are usually the bake element, the oven temperature sensor, a glass-top radiant element or the touch panel. They are mostly common brands, so parts are easy to source.

Before you book, find the model and serial number. They are in the builder’s appliance package, or on the rating plate you see when you open the oven door or pull out the drawer. A range still inside its manufacturer’s coverage is worth a call to the manufacturer first, as the repair may be covered. If not, give us the numbers when you book so the right parts are more likely to be on hand.

The century homes downtown and the farmhouses up the concessions carry ranges with real mileage, often used hard every day. Their faults are mostly wear: coil receptacles that scorch at the terminals, infinite switches that no longer hold a setting, oven door hinges and springs that let the door sag, and gaskets that leak heat. All of those are standard, inexpensive repairs. Older gas ranges more often need an igniter, a burner cleaning or a valve check.

• Oven won’t reach temperature: a weak element, a drifting sensor or, on gas ovens, an igniter that glows but no longer opens the valve. The technician checks how far the oven actually runs from the dial setting.
