LG fridge repair in Ottawa

LG refrigerators, including InstaView Door-in-Door, French-door (LFXS, LMXS and LRMVS series), side-by-side (LSXS), LG Signature (LUPXS, LUPXC) and LG Studio counter-depth models, are built around LG’s linear inverter compressor. When that platform is healthy these are excellent fridges. When it fails, the symptoms usually trace back to linear compressor faults, main PCB or inverter board failure, defrost-system breakdown or water-dispenser and ice-maker issues.

LG fridges have a built-in service mode that reports stored faults, and the technician uses it alongside meter tests. Give us the model number when you book (the label is inside the fresh-food compartment, on a side wall) so the technician can prepare for the likely evaporator fan, defrost heater, inverter board or water valve.

The most common LG refrigerator complaint we hear in Ottawa is “the freezer is freezing but the fridge isn’t cooling”, or simply “everything is warm”. The first thing to check is whether the linear compressor is starting at all. If you hear a click every few seconds with no sustained run, the inverter PCB (EBR series) or the compressor itself is at fault. A frosted evaporator from a defrost failure can produce the same warm-fridge symptom, which is why we test before naming a part.

Two quick checks first

If the display shows “OF F”, the fridge is in display (demo) mode: lights and screen work, but cooling is switched off. The owner’s manual gives the button combination to exit it, usually two buttons held together for a few seconds. Also make sure food is not blocking the air vents at the back of the fresh-food compartment and that both doors close fully; either can make a healthy LG fridge run warm.

Compressor warranty and sealed-system work

LG offers a 10-year limited warranty on the compressor part for many of its fridges, so check your warranty papers; that coverage generally does not include the diagnostic or the labour. LG’s onboard diagnostics show fault codes that point toward the failed component. The ones we see most:

• ER FF: freezer fan.
• ER IF: ice-maker fan.
• ER RF: refrigerator fan.
• ER CO: communication between the main board and the display.
• ER DH: defrost heater open.
• ER FS / ER RS: freezer or fridge sensor open or shorted.

Resetting usually brings the same code back within a day or two. Share the code when booking; it helps the technician prepare for the likely evaporator fan, sensor harness or main PCB. Fan codes are often caused by ice on the fan blade, so the defrost system is checked at the same time.

InstaView Door-in-Door is one of LG’s premium features, but the secondary door mechanism takes a beating over the years. Sagging hinges, misaligned latches, torn secondary-door gaskets and the familiar “knock twice and nothing lights up” problem (the knock sensor or the display board) are all repairable, often in one visit once the part is confirmed. A door that no longer seals also makes the compressor run longer, so it is worth fixing early.

LG’s Slim SpacePlus ice maker, door-mounted on French-door models, and the newer Craft Ice round-ball maker share a few common failure points: the ice-maker motor module (AEQ series), the freezer evaporator fan (it has to move cold air across the ice mould), the water inlet valve (5220JA2009A, or the AJU series on newer units) and the dispenser-flap solenoid.

Leaking water

Water pooling under the produce drawers is almost always a frozen defrost drain; LG’s drain check-valve grommet (AJP73595301) is a common culprit on French-door models. Water in front of the fridge usually points to the water inlet valve or a dispenser-tubing leak inside the door. Both are typically 30- to 60-minute repairs once the part is on hand. Compressor never cycles off

An LG refrigerator whose compressor never stops is usually fighting one of three problems: a torn door gasket letting warm air in (an easy fix), a failed evaporator fan motor, or a sealed-system leak slowly losing refrigerant. We check the gaskets and fans and measure the discharge-line temperature and running wattage to isolate it. Don’t replace a $2,500 fridge until you’ve had a real diagnosis.
