Gas cooktop repair in Ottawa

Gas cooktop diagnostic: $129 + tax. Electric and induction cooktops are the $89 + tax residential diagnostic. Gas appliances carry the higher rate because they need certified gas handling, a leak test on every connection we touch and a combustion check before we leave, work that takes longer and carries more responsibility than swapping an element on an electric unit.

The diagnostic covers the visit, the full inspection, the leak test and a written price for the repair before anything is dismantled. You decide whether to proceed. If you go ahead, the work follows the written quote you approved for parts and labour. If you don’t, you owe the diagnostic and nothing else.

Booking for between 9 PM and 7 AM? That is an after-hours visit, with a $100 flat fee on top. More than 30 km from downtown Ottawa, travel charges may apply; ask when you book.

Clicking but no flame. The spark module is firing, so the igniter circuit is alive, but gas isn’t reaching the burner, or isn’t reaching it in the right mix. Most of the time this is a clogged burner port, a burner cap sitting crooked or an igniter soaked by a boil-over. The rest of the time it is a failing spark module, and clicking that never stops even with the knobs off is the classic sign of that.

One burner out, the rest fine. Almost always local to that position: the cap seated wrong after cleaning, a blocked port, or a cracked igniter electrode. This is usually the quickest and least expensive gas cooktop repair.

Yellow or orange flame instead of blue. A blue flame with a small inner cone is complete combustion. Yellow, lazy or sooty flames mean the air-to-gas mix is wrong, which means unburned fuel and carbon monoxide in your kitchen. Black soot on the bottom of your pots is the giveaway; stop using that burner and book.

Gas smell. If you smell gas and it doesn’t clear right away, don’t troubleshoot it. Don’t operate light switches; leave the home and phone Enbridge Gas or your utility’s emergency line once you are outside. When the utility has made the property safe, we handle the appliance-side repair.

Burner won’t simmer. The flame either roars or goes out, with nothing usable in between. That is normally a valve fault or a low-flame adjustment that has drifted: a genuine repair, because it ruins sauces and means the valve is no longer metering properly.

Knob turns but nothing happens. A broken valve stem, a stripped knob, or, on cooktops with flame-failure protection, a thermocouple that thinks the flame is out and keeps the gas shut. See also stove burner not working and gas stove igniter clicking.

A gas cooktop dropped into a countertop, with a wall oven below or elsewhere, is a different appliance from a freestanding gas range: different valve assembly, different ignition wiring, different access. We repair both. Parts for mainstream brands are usually available quickly; rare imported valve bodies can take longer, and we tell you that with the quote rather than after.

Every gas connection we open is leak-tested before we close up, and the burner flames are checked once the repair is done. You get a written price before the work starts, a written diagnostic report afterwards, and a 3-month warranty covering parts and labour (written terms available).
