Appliance repair in Bourget, Hammond and Cheney
A village between the river towns and the 417 shouldn’t fall through the service cracks. Bourget is farm-and-village country: century homes along Laval Street, bungalows on big lots, and working farms up every side road toward Hammond and Cheney. The appliances here work rural-hard. Chest freezers hold a season of food, laundry pairs run every day, and farm-kitchen stoves feed whole crews.
We fix them at your door, frequently in one trip if the part needed is a standard one, and B&M has been in the appliance repair business since 1995. Every call gets a price on paper before any work starts and a warranty once it is done, and the whole visit can happen in French if that is your kitchen’s language.
Villages like Bourget are used to hearing “next time we’re out that way.” We would rather book a real day: send a request, and we call or text back with a confirmed arrival window.
03Rural east
Sump pits, wells and propane: details we check
Rural east homes have a few realities that change how an appliance problem is handled, so the diagnosis covers the house and not just the machine.
- Basements with a sump. Laundry and second fridges often live in basements beside the sump pit or floor drain. A leaking fridge, freezer or washer down there is urgent, because water spreads under stored goods and finishings before anyone sees it. We trace the leak to its source, whether a defrost drain, inlet valve, door boot or pump seal.
- Well water. Hard, mineral-rich water scales dishwashers and clogs the screens in washer inlet valves. We clean or replace the affected parts and explain the settings that slow the build-up.
- Propane on some concessions. Not every Bourget-area kitchen is on natural gas. If your range or dryer runs on propane, say so in your request and we confirm at booking whether we can take the job; natural-gas work is carried out by TSSA-certified technicians.
If there is any smell of gas or propane, don’t stay inside to investigate. Go outdoors and call Enbridge Gas or the propane company from there.
04Freezers
Chest freezers that hold a season of food
When a basement or garage freezer dies, the first question is whether it is the freezer at all. Freezers are often plugged into GFCI outlets in basements and garages, and a tripped outlet shuts them off silently. Check the outlet’s reset button and the breaker before anything else, and keep an inexpensive freezer thermometer or alarm inside.
If power is fine and the freezer is still warm, the technician tests the control (a mechanical thermostat or an electronic board), the compressor’s start relay and overload and, on upright models, the fans and defrost parts. A lid gasket that is torn or pulled away from a worn hinge lets in moist air, and on a manual-defrost chest freezer frost thicker than about half a centimetre starts to cost cooling performance. Compressor and refrigerant faults are a separate sealed-system diagnostic, and that repair is priced over the phone.
The house fridge gets the same methodical approach: defrost heater, thermostat and sensor, evaporator and condenser fans, the defrost drain and the control board. A coil caked in frost behind the freezer panel usually means the defrost system has stopped working. See freezer not freezing and fridge not cooling for more detail.
05Laundry and kitchen
Washers, dryers and farm-kitchen stoves
Laundry that runs every day
Daily loads of work clothes wear washers in predictable places. A tub that won’t empty usually hides a sock or coin in the pump, a clogged filter or a kinked hose; a drum that won’t spin points to the drive belt, the coupler, the lid switch or door lock; banging on spin means worn shocks, suspension springs or drum bearings. Dryers that need two runs per load usually have a lint-choked vent, a blown thermal fuse or a weak heating element, and squeaks or thumps come from rollers, the belt or the idler pulley. See washer not draining and dryer not heating.
Barn grit, straw and mud end up in the pump filter and the drain hose, so shake out coveralls and empty pockets before washing. Very heavy wet loads, such as several sets of coveralls or a horse blanket, strain the suspension and drum bearings; splitting them into smaller loads adds years to the machine. Clean the filter every few weeks if the washer handles farm laundry.
Stoves that feed a crew
A farm-kitchen range often cooks for more people, more often, than a typical household stove. Ovens that take forever to preheat or bake unevenly usually have a failing bake or broil element, a drifting temperature sensor or a stuck relay on the control board. On the cooktop we replace dead coil elements and infinite switches, and repair glass-top and induction controls. On natural-gas ranges we sort out burners that refuse to light, igniters that keep clicking and flames that burn weak or uneven.
Dishwashers and range hoods
Grit, a puddle or dirty dishes from a dishwasher usually trace to the filter and sump, the drain pump and hose, the spray arms, the inlet valve or the door seal. Range hoods with a failing fan, light or switch, and over-the-range microwaves that no longer heat, can often be repaired on the same call when the part is a common one.
06Brands
Brands we see in Bourget kitchens
We regularly repair Frigidaire, GE, Whirlpool, Samsung, LG, Maytag, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Bosch, Danby and Miele appliances for Bourget households. Parts that need ordering come with an estimated arrival date. A machine that is still under its factory warranty should go to the manufacturer first. Basic chest freezers from Danby, Frigidaire and similar makers have few parts, so a failed thermostat or relay on one is usually a quick repair rather than a reason to replace it.
Whatever the brand or age, the advice is straight, in either language. If the machine is worth fixing, it is often running again before we leave; if it isn’t, we say so and can help you think through a replacement. Our guide to how long appliances last is a useful reference.
07Your visit
What to expect from your Bourget appliance repair
- Book online whenever it suits you. Your request becomes an appointment once we have called or texted with a time slot, typically a three-hour window.
- Share the make and model. Knowing it lets the technician bring the parts your model most often needs.
- Diagnosis on site. The technician tests the appliance, identifies the fault and gives you a clear price on paper, with no pressure to go ahead.
- Repair and paperwork. Approved repairs can often be done on the spot when the part is a common one. You get a written diagnostic report, and the repair is backed for three months, parts and labour included.
08Fees
The fee, the quote and travel to Bourget
The diagnostic for a household appliance is $89 + tax ($129 + tax when it runs on gas or it is commercial equipment). It buys a complete diagnosis plus a quote on paper, and the amount is put toward the repair if you say yes.
Bourget sits about 40 minutes east of downtown Ottawa, beyond the 30 km line, so a travel charge may apply; we confirm it with you when booking. Daytime service is 7 AM to 9 PM, and night calls (9 PM to 7 AM) carry a $100 flat surcharge on top of the regular price. Urgent? Our emergency appliance repair page explains the after-hours options.

Why did my basement freezer stop without warning?
Often it is the power, not the freezer: a tripped GFCI outlet or breaker shuts it off silently. If the outlet is fine and the freezer is still warm, keep the lid closed and book a diagnosis.
