1. Unbalanced Load

2. Clogged Drain / Pump
The machine must drain before it can spin. Lint, coins, or a missing sock lodged in the pump filter stops drainage. You’ll see water in the drum and codes like F05, F21, Nd, OE, 5d, 5E.
3. Broken Door Lock / Lid Switch
Front-loaders won’t spin unless the door locks. Top-loaders won’t spin unless the lid switch reports closed. Very common failure point. Codes: F8 E4, dL, LE, DC, Door.
4. Broken or Stretched Drive Belt
Belt-driven washers fail to spin when the belt snaps or slips. You’ll hear the motor run but the drum stays still. Inexpensive part, straightforward fix.
5. Motor Coupler / Clutch
Older direct-drive Whirlpool, Maytag, and Kenmore washers use a plastic motor coupler that wears out. Agitator still moves, drum won’t spin. Cheap part, 1–2 hour job.
6. Bad Motor or Control Board
