Appliance repair in Riverside South

Riverside South is one of Ottawa’s fastest-growing communities, with homes along Limebank Road, River Road, Spratt Road and Earl Armstrong Road and around Riverside South Town Centre. It sits between the Rideau River and the airport, linked to Barrhaven by the Vimy Memorial Bridge, and keeps filling in around the Limebank O-Train station.

Most Riverside South homes were built from the mid-2000s onward, so a lot of the original builder-installed appliances are now at the 10-to-15-year mark: right when fridges start losing their cooling, dishwashers stop draining and front-load washers begin throwing error codes. The brands builders installed here, Whirlpool, GE, Samsung, LG, Frigidaire and Maytag, are all brands we repair. Many repairs are finished on the first trip when the part is common, and having the make and model before the visit helps us prepare.

Electronic controls and error codes

Newer homes mean newer appliances with electronic controls and error codes. Write the code down or photograph it and mention it when you book; it narrows the fault before the technician arrives. Upgraded and built-in kitchens

Upgraded kitchens often have panel-ready dishwashers, built-in fridges, induction cooktops and wall ovens, and we work carefully around custom cabinetry and panels.

Laundry on an upper floor

If your washer is on the main or second floor rather than in the basement, a leak or a machine that shakes and walks needs prompt attention, because the water ends up in the ceiling below. Turn off the supply valves if you can and stop running cycles; the technician checks the hoses, door boot, levelling and suspension and tells you what failed.

Gas appliances

Gas appliance repairs are done by our TSSA-certified technicians, from burners that won’t light and clicking igniters to ovens that won’t heat and gas dryers with no heat, with a $129 + tax diagnostic for gas appliances.

Refrigerators and freezers

When a fridge of this age stops cooling, the cause is usually wear in the defrost system. A failed defrost heater, defrost thermostat or sensor lets frost build up on the evaporator coil until air can’t circulate. Fans are the next suspect: an evaporator fan behind the freezer wall or a condenser fan near the compressor that has seized. A dusty condenser coil, a failed start relay or a faulty control board can cause the same symptom, so the technician measures temperatures and airflow and tests each part instead of guessing; you pay only for the part that actually failed. A compressor or refrigerant fault is sealed-system work, with its own $159 + tax diagnostic and a phone quote.

Water on the floor or under the crisper drawers is most often a defrost drain that has frozen or clogged, a split water line or an inlet valve that leaks, and the ice makers and water dispensers on French-door and side-by-side models are frequent repairs too. We also fix frost build-up, door seals that no longer grip and fridges that click, buzz or rattle, on top-freezer, bottom-freezer, counter-depth and built-in models and on upright and chest freezers. In the meantime, open the doors as little as possible, and if it has been warm for several hours, put essentials in a cooler.

Washers

Front-loaders installed with the house are now at the age for error codes, drain faults and leaks. No draining usually means the pump filter is clogged, a hose is blocked or the drain pump itself has quit. No spinning points to a worn belt, the door lock or lid switch, worn suspension parts or the motor control. Water on the floor usually comes from a ripped door boot (bellows), a loose or cracked hose or a leaking pump seal, and a musty smell from debris caught in the pump filter or mould in the boot, which we clean or replace and show you how to prevent. Common codes include OE, 5C, F21 and E21. We repair top-load, front-load, high-efficiency and stacked washers.

Dryers

No heat on an electric model usually comes down to the heating element, the thermal fuse, or the cycling or high-limit thermostat; on a gas model, the igniter, flame sensor or gas valve coil. If the motor runs but the drum doesn’t turn, expect a snapped belt, a worn idler pulley or worn drum rollers, and squealing or thumping comes from rollers, glides or the idler. We also fix dryers that won’t start or shut off early. If drying takes too long, the vent is often the real problem: lint in the run cuts airflow and makes the dryer run hot, so the technician checks airflow during the diagnosis and tells you whether the vent needs attention.

Dishwashers

When water sits in the tub after a cycle, the filter, the drain hose or air gap, or the drain pump is usually to blame. Dirty dishes tend to trace to a blocked spray arm, a tired circulation pump, a sticking inlet valve or water that is too cool; wet dishes, no fill and no start are repairable too. Leaks tend to start at a worn door gasket, a cracked sump or a loose hose underneath. On Bosch machines, E15 signals water in the base and E24/E25 a drain problem: we fix the cause, dry the base and reset the unit. We repair built-in, panel-ready and compact dishwashers from Samsung, LG, Bosch, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, GE, Frigidaire, Miele and others.

Ranges, ovens and cooktops

Gas, electric and induction ranges, stoves, wall ovens and cooktops, whether freestanding, slide-in or built-in, are all on our list. The usual complaints: an oven that stays cold or heats unevenly, a burnt-out bake or broil element, temperatures drifting hot or cold, burners or elements that stay off, a self-clean lock stuck shut and touch controls that no longer respond. For glass-top and induction cooktops, the technician tests the elements, infinite switches, induction generator boards and touch controls. Electric and induction ranges are 240-volt appliances, so leave panels and wiring alone; power is isolated before any testing.

Range hoods and microwaves

Range hood fans that won’t run or run weakly, failed lights and unresponsive controls are all fixable. So are over-the-range and built-in microwaves that won’t heat or start, that spark, or that have a failed door switch, turntable motor or exhaust fan. Replacing a countertop microwave usually costs less than repairing it, and we’ll say so.

2. Diagnose. The technician inspects the appliance and runs a full diagnostic, not just a look at the obvious symptom.
3. Quote. The repair is quoted in writing on site. The $89 + tax residential diagnostic is applied toward the repair if you approve it.
4. Repair. If a part needs ordering, we give you the expected timeline right away.
5. Warranty. A written diagnostic report is sent after the visit, and the repair is backed for 3 months on parts and labour.
