Short answer

Hawkesbury, L’Orignal, Chute-à-Blondeau and the countryside of Champlain Township have bilingual, in-home appliance repair from B&M Canada Appliances, en français ou en anglais: fridges and freezers, washers and dryers, dishwashers, stoves, ovens, cooktops, range hoods and microwaves. The town is inside our service area, and every repair is quoted in writing before any work. Because Hawkesbury is well east of Ottawa, a travel surcharge may apply.

Hawkesbury appliance repair, en français ou en anglais

Fridge, washer, dryer, dishwasher, stove or range hood down in Hawkesbury? Halfway between Ottawa and Montréal, Hawkesbury homes often seem to fall between two service areas. Ours actually includes you, and B&M Canada Appliances has served the region since 1995.

Hawkesbury is one of Ontario’s most French-speaking towns, and that shouldn’t complicate a service call. We handle appointments in French or English: you explain the problem in whichever language suits you, and you get the same written quote, written diagnostic report and 3-month warranty on parts and labour either way. Repairs are factory-authorized.

03Mill-town homes

Mill-era houses, boom-year bungalows and newer builds

Hawkesbury grew up around the mills on the Ottawa River, and its homes tell that story: solid wartime and mill-era houses on the grid around rue Main, bungalows from the boom years, and newer builds toward the highway. The appliances inside range from decades-old workhorses to brand-new French-door fridges, and our technicians are trained across all of it.

Giving us the make and model at booking helps the technician prepare for the likely fault, and many repairs are finished on the first visit when the part is common. When a part has to be ordered in, you’ll know how long it should take before you decide. And if a repair isn’t worth the machine’s age, we say so and help you weigh the options.

04Beyond the appliance

Checking the venting, water lines and wiring too

The housing stock here rewards experience. Mill-era homes can hide older stove circuits and tight galley kitchens, and riverside properties deal with humidity that is hard on fridge coils, door gaskets and dryer vents. Our technicians check the surroundings (venting, water supply lines, the outlet and circuit) as part of the diagnosis rather than bouncing the problem back to you. If the fault turns out to be in the house wiring rather than the appliance, we tell you so you can call an electrician.

Two things we check often in older Hawkesbury homes: fridge water lines fed through a saddle valve, which tends to clog or drip with age, and long dryer vents run through the basement with several elbows, which trap lint and moisture. Fixing either can matter as much as the part inside the appliance, and the technician will point it out when it does. Kitchens laid out long before today’s deeper fridges and wider ranges also make a repair the better option more often than not, since a replacement may simply not fit.

05Refrigeration

Why a Hawkesbury fridge stops cooling

The diagnosis starts where the cold is made. Behind the freezer panel sits the evaporator coil; if it is buried in frost, the defrost circuit is the suspect, and the technician tests its heater, its bi-metal thermostat or sensor, and the timer or board that runs it. A clear coil moves the search to the two fans, the condenser coil and the start relay, and finally to the controls. Working in that order finds the fault without guesswork, and you pay only for the part that actually failed. Each of these causes is explained in our fridge not cooling guide.

Warm fridges are only part of the work. Puddles beneath the crisper drawers, an ice maker that no longer fills or a dispenser that dribbles, a water valve that hisses or drips, a door gasket letting damp river air in, and a fan or compressor that has turned noisy are all regular calls. We repair French-door and side-by-side fridges, top- and bottom-freezer, built-in and panel-ready models, and upright and chest freezers.

When an older unit’s compressor or sealed system is the problem, you get a frank opinion on whether it deserves the money before anything more is spent, and that sealed-system repair is quoted by phone.

06Laundry

Washer and dryer faults we fix

Most washers we see have stopped mid-cycle with water in the tub, refuse to spin, bang on spin or leak. Standing water is nearly always the drain side: a small item lodged in the pump, a filter full of lint, a hose bent flat behind the machine or a drain pump at the end of its life. When the drum won’t turn, the technician tests the drive belt or coupler, the lid switch or door lock and the motor board. A machine that thumps hard on spin usually needs new shocks, springs or bearings. Leaks are traced back to where the water first escapes, whether the boot, a fill hose, the soap dispenser, the pump or the tub seal, so the fix holds. Our washing machine repair takes in top- and front-loaders, compact and stacked units and washer-dryer combos.

For a dryer that leaves clothes damp, airflow is checked first and heat second. A blocked vent is a frequent root cause, because it overheats the dryer and blows the thermal fuse; next come a heating element that has burnt out, a thermostat that has failed and, on gas dryers, the igniter, flame sensor or gas valve coils. A dryer with no sign of life usually has a bad door or start switch, an open thermal fuse or a control-board fault. Squeaking, grinding or thumping almost always comes from worn rollers, the belt or the idler, straightforward repairs that add years to the machine. Gas dryers are repaired by our TSSA-certified technicians, and we let you know if the vent needs cleaning.

07Kitchen

Dishwashers, stoves, ovens, microwaves and hoods

Dishwashers usually fail in one of three ways: water left in the tub, dishes that come out gritty, or water on the floor. The technician follows the water through the filter and sump, out through the drain pump and hose, up through the spray arms and in at the inlet valve, then checks the heater and door seal, and the board and latch if the machine won’t start. The fix is most often a pump (drain or wash), an inlet valve, a gasket or latch, a heating element or a float switch, or simply a cleared drain path. An error code or a pattern of beeps is worth mentioning when you book.

An oven that is slow to preheat, bakes unevenly or stays cold usually needs a new bake or broil element or temperature sensor, or has a relay stuck on its control board; sometimes the door lock has stayed engaged after self-clean. On the cooktop, elements that won’t heat, infinite switches that have failed, glass-top touch controls that ignore you and induction zones that can’t find the pot are all repairable, on freestanding, slide-in and built-in models. Gas ranges, ovens and cooktops are handled by our TSSA-certified technicians, whether the burner won’t light, the igniter keeps clicking, the flame is weak or lopsided or the gas oven won’t heat.

If you smell gas, get everyone out of the home and call Enbridge Gas from outside before booking a repair.

Over-the-range microwaves also serve as the hood, so a failure stops both jobs. On those and on built-in models, the magnetron, the high-voltage diode and capacitor, the door switches, the turntable motor, the exhaust fan and the control board can all be replaced; on range hoods, the fan, lights and switches. Countertop microwaves get an honest repair-or-replace answer.

08Fees and travel

Diagnostic fee, travel and after-hours visits

The residential service call is $119 + tax, and $159 + tax for gas appliances and commercial equipment. It pays for a full diagnosis and a written repair quote before anything is fixed. On site, the technician looks at the whole appliance, not just the obvious symptom, explains the fault in plain language and puts the price in writing; you decide whether to go ahead, with no pressure. After the visit you’ll have a written diagnostic report, and each completed repair carries three months of parts-and-labour cover; ask for the written terms.

Hawkesbury is well east of our 30 km Ottawa core zone, so a travel surcharge may apply; ask about it when you book. Requests can be sent online at any hour, and they become appointments once we phone or text you a three-hour window. Calls between 9 PM and 7 AM add a $100 flat after-hours fee to regular rates; for urgent breakdowns, see our emergency appliance repair page.
