Appliance repair in Old Ottawa South

In a century-old basement the technician also looks at the drain standpipe and the shut-off valves, because a slow standpipe or a seized valve can look like a washer fault. Older wiring can trip a breaker when a high-draw dryer or range starts; if the circuit rather than the appliance is the cause, we tell you so an electrician can look at it.

Renovated and integrated kitchens

A refrigerator that runs warm rarely needs replacing outright; usually one part of the cooling cycle has failed. Our technicians work through the defrost system (heater, bi-metal thermostat, sensor, and the timer or board), the evaporator and condenser fans, the start relay and the controls until they find the weak link. A coil frozen solid behind the freezer panel turns up again and again, and it normally means a defrost fault, often repairable on the first visit.

We also deal with water collecting under the crisper drawers, ice makers that stop filling or dispense slowly, water valves that leak or hum, worn door gaskets that let warm air in, and noisy fans or compressors. Washers

A washer that stops mid-cycle with a tub full of water is stressful, and usually very fixable. Most often the drain path is blocked: a sock or coin in the pump, a clogged filter, a kinked hose or a worn-out drain pump. When the drum won’t spin we check the belt, motor coupler, door lock or lid switch and the motor control board; loud banging on spin usually means worn shock absorbers, suspension springs or drum bearings. We repair top-load, front-load, compact and stacked washers, including washer-dryer combos, and we trace a leak back to its source (door boot, fill hoses, detergent dispenser, pump or tub seal) instead of patching over it.

Clothes dryers

Damp clothes after a full cycle send us to airflow and heat first. A blown thermal fuse (often the result of a blocked vent), a burnt-out heating element or a failed thermostat are common, and on gas dryers the igniter, flame sensor or gas valve coil. A dryer that won’t start at all usually has a failed door switch, start switch, thermal fuse or control board. Squeaking, grinding or thumping points to worn drum rollers, the belt or the idler pulley, straightforward repairs that add years to the machine. Dishwashers

A puddle, a gritty film or dirty dishes almost always have a specific cause. The technician checks the filter and sump, drain pump and hose, spray arms, inlet valve, heating element and door seal, and tests the control board and latch if the unit won’t start. Typical repairs are drain and circulation pumps, inlet valves, gaskets, latches, heating elements and float switches, or clearing a blocked drain path, on built-in, panel-ready and compact models. Stoves, ovens and cooktops

Slow preheating, uneven baking or no heat usually means a failed bake or broil element, a faulty temperature sensor, a stuck relay on the control board, or a door lock that jammed after self-clean. On cooktops we repair dead elements, failed infinite switches, unresponsive glass-top controls and induction zones that won’t detect cookware. Gas ranges, ovens and cooktops are repaired by our TSSA-certified technicians: burners that won’t light, igniters that click non-stop, weak flames and gas ovens that won’t heat.

Microwaves and range hoods

An over-the-range microwave is also your hood, so when it fails both jobs stop. We repair magnetrons, high-voltage diodes and capacitors, door switches, turntable motors, exhaust fans and control boards on built-in and over-the-range models, and fans, lights and switches on standalone hoods.
