Storage freezers are meant to hold product at −18 °C (0 °F) or colder. Ice-cream dipping cabinets run a few degrees warmer so the product can be scooped, so judge those against the maker’s recommended setting. A storage cabinet creeping above −18 °C is worth a call before product starts to soften. These are the faults we check for:

• Not freezing: the compressor and its start components, evaporator and condenser fans, and the controls.
• Frost or ice on the evaporator: defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost termination switch and controller calibration.
• Failed door seals: torn magnetic gaskets, heated door frames and sweeps, replaced to the manufacturer’s spec.
• Compressor that never shuts off: a dirty condenser, a door that isn’t sealing, a miscalibrated controller, or signs of a refrigerant problem.
• Loud operation: worn fan motor bearings, compressor mounts, the condenser shroud or vibration isolators.
• Ice or water under the unit: the drain heater, a defrost drain line that has frozen, or the P-trap.
• Display and controller errors: touch panel, alarm board, sensor calibration and communication faults.
• Interior lighting: LED retrofits, ballasts and low-voltage transformers.

• Keep the lid or door closed. A full, closed freezer holds its cold far longer than a half-empty one that is opened all through service.
• Move the most valuable product into another freezer or a walk-in if you have room.
• Make sure boxes aren’t blocking the condenser grille and that the breaker hasn’t tripped.
• Write down cabinet temperatures and times; they help the diagnosis and your food-safety records.

1. Stock-loss triage. When you book, we ask for the make and model, the symptom, the stock at risk and whether product can go into an adjacent unit. The visit is set once we confirm your time window by call or text, and same-day service happens when the day’s schedule has room.
2. Full diagnostic and written quote. The technician checks the compressor, evaporator and condenser fans, defrost system, controller, door system and drain line. Your quote separates parts, labour and any refrigerant work.
3. Repair, in one visit when the part is common. Fan motors, controllers, defrost heaters and door gaskets are everyday freezer parts, so many repairs are finished on the first visit; anything else is ordered in. 4. Report and warranty. A written report you can keep for insurance, HACCP and chain-account audits, and a 3-month warranty on parts and labour.

The service-call diagnostic is $129 + tax at the commercial rate. Overnight visits (9 PM to 7 AM) carry a $100 flat after-hours fee in addition to regular rates. Refrigerant work on the sealed system is priced on its own, and outside a 30 km radius of downtown Ottawa a travel charge may be added, quoted first.
