Appliance repair in Arnprior

Arnprior sits where the Madawaska River flows into the Ottawa River, at the gateway to the upper Ottawa Valley west of Kanata. Like much of the Valley, many homes around Arnprior draw from a private well. Well water carries minerals and fine sediment that settle wherever water enters an appliance: the screen inside a washer or dishwasher inlet valve, the fridge water filter and the ice-maker fill valve. In dishwashers, hard-water scale also coats the heating element and plugs spray-arm holes, which shows up as cloudy glasses and food left on the top rack.

Country kitchens often run a second fridge or a chest freezer in the garage or basement, and we service those too. A standard fridge in an unheated garage can stop running properly in a deep cold snap, because its thermostat senses the cold room and the freezer section starts to thaw; in a hot summer the same unit works much harder. If a freezer full of meat or garden produce has gone warm, keep the lid closed and tell us how long it has been off when you book.

• Write down any error code or flashing light before you call.
• Check that the breaker has not tripped and the outlet has power.
• If the house is on a well, say so in your request; it changes what the technician checks first.

When a refrigerator warms up, the cause is usually one failed part rather than the whole machine. The most frequent finding is an evaporator coil buried in frost because the defrost heater, defrost thermostat or sensor has failed. Other common causes are a stopped evaporator or condenser fan, a condenser coil clogged with dust, and a faulty start relay or control board. The technician measures temperatures, checks airflow and tests each component, so you pay for the part that actually failed and not for guesses.

We also fix water under the crisper drawers or on the floor (usually a defrost drain that has frozen solid, a water line that has cracked or an inlet valve that leaks), ice makers and dispensers that quit, freezers that frost up, door gaskets that no longer seal, and clicking, buzzing or rattling. Washing machines

Front-load, top-load, high-efficiency and stacked washers come to us when they hold water, refuse to spin, leak, stop partway through a cycle or flash an error code. Water left in the drum usually points to a clogged pump filter, a blocked hose or a drain pump that has failed. A drum that won’t spin often needs a new belt, lid switch or door lock, a suspension part or a motor control. Leaks usually trace to a tear in the door boot (bellows), a hose connection that has loosened or a hose that has cracked, or a pump seal that is weeping.

Musty smells in a front-loader usually mean debris is sitting in the pump filter or mould has taken hold in the door boot; we clean or replace the affected part and show you how to keep it from coming back. Dryers

Gas and electric dryers come to us for no heat, no start, no tumble, shutting off early or taking too long. No heat on an electric model usually means the heating element, thermal fuse, cycling thermostat or high-limit thermostat; on a gas model, the igniter, flame sensor or gas valve coils. When the drum won’t turn, expect a broken belt or a worn idler pulley or rollers; squealing or thumping comes from the same parts or the drum glides. Dishwashers

No drain, poor cleaning, leaks, no fill, no start and wet dishes are the complaints we hear most. Water standing in the tub usually points to the filter, the drain hose or air gap, or a drain pump that has quit. Poor results often trace back to blocked spray arms, a weak circulation pump, a failing inlet valve or water that isn’t hot enough, and on well water, to scale. Leaks tend to begin at the door gasket, a cracked sump or a loose fitting underneath. Bosch owners will know E15 (water has reached the base) and E24 or E25 (a drain fault); the cause gets fixed, the base dried and the machine reset. Stoves, ovens, ranges and cooktops

Ranges, stoves, wall ovens and cooktops are all in scope, gas, electric or induction, freestanding, slide-in or built-in. Typical faults include uneven or absent oven heat, a burnt-out bake or broil element, temperatures running hot or cold, burners or elements that stay off, a self-clean lock that won’t release and touchpads that stop responding. Glass-top and induction cooktops can need new elements, infinite switches, an induction generator board or touch controls. Gas ranges, ovens and cooktops are handled by our TSSA-certified technicians, including burners that refuse to light, igniters that never stop clicking, flames that are weak or uneven and gas ovens that won’t heat. Range hoods and microwaves

We fix range hoods with a fan that has stopped or lost power, a dead light or unresponsive controls, and over-the-range and built-in microwaves with no heat, no start, sparking, or a failed door switch, turntable motor or exhaust fan. A countertop microwave is usually cheaper to replace than to repair, and we will tell you so.

The residential diagnostic service call is $89 + tax; gas appliances and commercial equipment are $129 + tax. The technician inspects the appliance and gives you a written quote, and if you approve the repair, the service call is applied toward it. A travel charge may apply because Arnprior is more than 30 km from downtown Ottawa. Visits between 9 PM and 7 AM add a $100 flat after-hours fee.
