Frequently Asked Questions
How Induction Cooktops Fail Differently
An induction cooktop has no burner element to burn out. Instead, an electronic power board drives a copper coil under the glass, which heats your pan directly through a magnetic field. That’s why induction faults look electronic, not thermal: error codes on the display, zones that stop detecting cookware, cooling fans that run loud or not at all, and boards that cut out mid-cook. The good news — almost all of it is repairable without replacing the cooktop.
Induction Problems We Repair in Ottawa
Cooktop won’t detect the pan. If one zone flashes and won’t heat, the pan sensor or that zone’s coil connection is the usual cause — assuming the cookware itself is induction-compatible (a fridge magnet should stick firmly to the base).
Error codes on the display. Each brand’s codes map to specific faults — overheating sensors, voltage problems, communication errors between boards. We carry the service data for the major brands, so the code usually tells us what to bring.
One zone dead, others fine. Typically a failed induction coil or its driver board section. Repairable at the zone level on most models.
Whole cooktop dead or tripping the breaker. Points to the main power board, a filter board, or the supply connection — we test before condemning any part.
Cracked glass. Replaceable on most models; we’ll quote the glass against the cost of a new unit so you can make the call.
Loud or constant fan noise. Cooling fans keep the electronics alive. A failing fan should be replaced before it takes the power board with it.
Repair or Replace?
Our rule of thumb: if the repair is less than half the cost of an equivalent new cooktop and the unit is under ten years old, repair wins. Induction units are expensive to replace, which tips the math toward repair more often than with conventional stoves. Either way, you get an honest written quote after the diagnostic — $89 + tax, folded into the repair if you proceed.
Brands We Service
Bosch, Samsung, LG, GE and GE Profile, Frigidaire, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Electrolux, Fisher & Paykel, Miele and other major induction brands sold in Canada.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my induction cooktop turn off by itself?
Overheat protection, a failing temperature sensor, or an empty-pan detection trip. If it happens repeatedly on normal cookware, book a diagnostic — sensors are an inexpensive fix.
Is it worth repairing a 7-year-old induction cooktop?
Usually yes. Board and coil repairs typically cost a fraction of a comparable new unit.
Do you repair induction ranges as well as cooktops?
Yes — freestanding and slide-in induction ranges, including the oven side.
My pans work on one zone but not another — user error?
No — if the same pan works on zone A but not zone B, zone B has a fault. That one’s on the cooktop, not you.
